Buzz and Viral Marketing in Gospel Music

Gospel Music has always been a strong part of the Christian belief. This music touches the soul and enlightens ones life. Gospel Music is intended to encourage those who go through the everyday problems of life and struggle with the trials and tribulations of living. With the Internet becoming a place for wide socialization and various methods of advertisement, Gospel Artist have begun to use mainstream virtual communities to expose their names and spread the word about their saviour. Buzz Marketing and Viral Marketing have had a large effect on this process, as Gospel Music has become some of the most listened to music in the music industry.

Buzz Marketing is exactly what it sounds like. It has become a market. Places like cafes, night clubs, and the Internet allow for this type of marketing to be effective. Some like to refer to this type of marketing as word of mouth marketing.

Gospel artist have even picked up on the new interest in sharing videos. As you know, YouTube is a site were people can upload videos and share them online. People from all over the world can then find them on the site and watch their clips or listen to their music. Well the gospel world has created their own version of YouTube. It is called GospelTube. "GospelTube is a Christian video sharing community that allows visitors to watch and share Christian and Gospel videos worldwide through a web experience for the whole family."(gospelcity.com)

Viral Marketing is very much apart of this process of advertisement also. Viral marketing is basically advertisement that spreads itself. This is exactly what the Internet allows for Gospel artist to do. The Internet provides viral marketing for the gospel artist by allowing them to gain recognition through the recognitions of their work which advertises itself. Wikipedia describes viral marketing as a marketing technique that uses pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness.

When they say that the Internet is for everyone, it truly is. All religions, all races, all cultures, anybody - can find their place on the Internet. Buzz and Viral Marketing will always exist as long as there is advertisement. Gospel Artist have used these methods very successfully to encourage people to listen to their music and become Christians. Some of the gospel videos are even good enough to be on television but just haven't made it yet. Here is one prime example of thousands.

It has been fun blogging with the Com125 class. I hope that I can continue finding interest in the blogger world and get comments from what people think about my ideas.

Online Communities and Journalism Collide

Online Communities and Journalism are on track for a crash collision. Online Communites have grown to beccome some of the largest communities in the world. Containing people of countries from as far east as the eye can see to the west, they share their thoughts, principles, opinions, decisions and perspectives.

Online Communities allow people to act as journalist. Journalist do not consider all journalism to be politically correct journalism. They percieve journalism as being an expert opinion from an expert. True journalist feel as if journalism can only be written by those with degrees and professions in journalism. But what is a TRUE journalist? Is it someone who simply writes for professional journals, the reporter or the editor. Well, Wikipedia describes a journalist as a person who practices journalism. Journalism being the gathering and spreading of information about current events, trends, issues and people (Wikipedia,Journalist). If this is the case, then you do not need a degree to be a journalist. Journalism comes in many different forms. Causing online communities and journalism to be related.

Some say that online communities are interferring with journalism. Not online journalism, but traditional methods of journalism such as the news broadcast and radio. "the internet has been both praised for increasing social discussion and criticized for decreasing face to face interaction." (Missouri school of Journalism)

Blogs are a major part of online communities that allow people to make acts of journalism. J.D. Lasica calls this type of journalism, "Participatory Journalism." Referring to individuals playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, sorting, analyzing and disseminating (J.D. Lasica,2003). In a sense, online communities and journalism need each other. They push each other to provide better information and more current updates. Online communities allow people to interact and discuss journalism from other journalists and create their own opinions from it.

I hope that people can see the relationship between journalism and online communities. They need each other. Online communities are not tearing down or degrading journalism, it is building up journalism and upgrading the way that it is percieved and the availability of it.

Pinscreen Animation: Extra Credit Blog

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS PINSCREEN ANIMATION? WHO CREATED IT? WHERE DID IT COME FROM? HAVE I EVER SEEN IT BEFORE?

These are some of the thoughts that raced through my mind as I came across this very rare exposed topic in cartoon animation. Im sure these same thoughts are going through your head as I introduce it. It was quite a coincidence how I even came across the subject of Pinscreen Animation. A subject that I never even heard of, captured my interest almost immediately.

Not an excessively used method of cartoon animation, Pinscreen Animation is the most unappreciated form of cartoon making. Pinscreen Animation is very time consuming and very costly. The most frequently used method of Pinscreen Animation is through Digital Pinscreen Animation. This method is extremely faster, more dependable and easily retrievable.

Chances are, you haven't witnessed Pinscreen Animation in action on television, or anywhere else for that matter, ever in your lifetime. Pinscreen Animation is so time consuming that Alexandre Alexeieff and his wife Claire Parker only created six short films in FIFTY YEARS. When I read that, I laughed because I figured that it was impossible to only make six SHORT films in fifty years but after watching this video, I found out that the statement was completely true.

Imagine having to sit and place pin after pin in the exact places at the length to create the perfect shadow to make one shaded color after another. And that is just using the colors black, white and gray. Millions of pins have to be placed in the same positions, frame after frame, with the perfect lighting to create a slow moving sequence of pictures to make a film. This could take......YEARS!

This is why Digital Pinscreen Animation became the savior of this mehtod of cartoon animation. Being able to do all of what manual Pinscreen animators could do, with just the click of a button was an unbelievable revolution.

The whole process of editing and placing an edit on Wikipedia was a very informative experience for me. I've never done anything like that, as far as creating an edit, posting the edit on an internet site and waiting for someone else to edit or approve of the edit that I posted. I felt like a true journalist. Writing about something that not many other people were interested in writing about. Having to edit, then re-edit and then re-edit agian to make sure that I wasn't commiting plagurism and so that Wikipedia wouldn't erase my edit. It was great.

The fact that my edit wasn't even edited and not one word was touched made me feel as if I'd accomplished my short term goal of the project. It felt as if I had published this topic and this document myself.

What is the Internet Coming to?

Has the United States gone mad? Has all the freedom and power that this country holds made us greedier than ever before? I definitely believe so. For many years, the Internet has been a place of freedom and publications. The government has always protected this freedom while major search engine corporations battled for the top spot in the research industry. The big debate is whether Internet Service providers should be able to charge more money for some traffic, or whether the law should mandate equal access.
It seems as if money is always in the very middle of every discussion concerning the government and power. Maybe that is because money is power in this country. "According to white papers now being circulated in the cable, telephone and telecommunications industries, those with the deepest pockets - corporations, special interest groups and major advertisers - would get preferred treatment. Content from these providers would have first priority on our computer and television screens, while information seen as undesirable, such as peer - to - peer communications, could be relegated to a slow lane or simply shut out."(The End of the Internet, Jeff Chester). Money seems to overshadow all logical reasoning. As we live on, the saying "the rich gets richer and the poor poorer" just becomes more and more real.
Personally, I believe that Network Neutrality should stand and not be tampered with. What would the Internet be like if there was total dictatorship over what you could and could not do on the Internet? What else would this dictatorship lead to? Well, I know that I definitely don't want to be the generation to find out the answers to those questions. The standards of the Internet need to be upheld. The virtual world would never again be the same if we allow these corporations to tamper with response times and interfere with the very interaction between various content providers(wikipedia, Network Neutrality).
"These companies want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which websites go fast or slow and which wont load at all."(wikipedia, Network Neutrality). Today major cable companies and DSL providers control almost 98% of the residential and small business broadband market(Free American Broadband!, S. Derek Turner).
It is every ones interest who is at risk. Both the individual users and the service providers. "Under the plans they are considering, all of us - from content providers to individual users - would pay more to surf online, stream videos or even send email."(The End of the Internet, Jeff Chester). For everyone who commonly uses the Internet, Network Neutrality would be at our best interest. The corporations want to control our Internet airways so badly because if they can control who we pay and who we use as search engines, they know that their pockets will just continually get fatter and fatter. The corporate giants are so hungry for this revolution, that they are fighting vigorously to stop cities and towns from building "Community Internet" systems, which is just affordable high-speed broadband services funded in part by community groups and municipalities(Free American Broadband!, S.Derek Turner). There would be no point in having the Internet anymore if everything all the way down to emails would be vigorously monitored. There would be no freedom and no choices that would be made by you yourself.
"Net Neutrality is so contentious that many people debating it cannot even agree on a definition"(K.C. Jones, 2007). After researching and reading all the debates from different sources, I've come up with my own definition: Network Neutrality is the protection and seal that Shields the abuse and monopoly of the corporate giants in the Internet industry. I totally support the issue of Network Neutrality. I support it because I believe in freedom. Users should have the freedom to choose their search engine, the freedom to surf the web without any dictation on where to go and most of all, the freedom to pay whomever they want to pay as an Internet provider.

9th Writing Assignment

Second Life (SL) is exactly what is sounds like. Its a second life. To some, its more real than others. The people who reside in this virtual world called "Residents" are taking full advantage of their new found life and the abundance of freedom that it has to offer.

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Upon entering, you are surrounded by the creations of your fellow residents. Residents can buy, sell and trade with other Residents. Inside the world is virtual land. This land can be explored in many different ways. People can build, people can buy, people can add on to and take away, and so because of this, the world is changing constantly every day.

The feature of Second Life that I want to elaborate on the most is on the Marketplace and the ability to invest in products. Second Life allows you to actually make real U.S. currency. Real Money! Residents create their own virtual goods and services. Because residents retain the IP rights of their creations, they are able to sell them at various in-world venues. Second Lifes real estate market provides opportunities for Residents to establish their own communities and business locations.

Second Life has its own economy and a currency referred to as Linden Dollars (L$). Though the exchange rate fluctuates, as of February 2007, it is reasonably stable at around L$ 270 to one U.S. dollar.

This availability of buying and selling for profit is a very instrumental part in the increasing curiosity of businessmen and those who are into real estate. And why wouldn't they be. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are trying to become actual business men and women in the real world. You can learn how to get customers interested in your products or land, how to sell a product, the value of creating and selling for a profit and all the ins and outs of true business.

Life has been good to me! But I think its time I got a Second Life...Look me up, Gsoup34 Pfeffer.

Internet Vs. Newspapers Round 1

The current event that I choose to do my research on was on the Marines and how they are banning tattoos. The Marines have tightened their restrictions on tattoos and are no longer allowing Marines to have any ink on the forearm area's or lower leg and in some instances, the bicept and tricept areas.

The Internet and the Newspapers are two very reliable current news sources. Both are easily accessible and both provide the reader with enough information to fully inform them of the news. But which would you prefer? The Internet or the local or National newspaper? Lets compare!

Newspapers
I decided to get an article form the local newspaper and the national newspaper. Funny thing is, is that they were the exact same articles in both newspapers. Same title, same introductions and the same endings. The article gave a fair amount of information as I said before, making sure that the reader has enough information to be informed about he situation. This article states that dozens of Marines from Camp Pendleton, the West Coasts biggest Marine base, made last minute trips to tattoo parlors in nearby Oceanside before the ban kicked in (Watkins, Ass. Press). "Some Marines have taken the liberty of tattooing themselves to a point that is contrary to our professional demeanor and the high standards America has come to expect from us." (Watkins, Ass. Press)
The newspaper gave a couple quotes and information backing up the quotes, but never really got into deep detail of the whole situation.

Internet
The Internet not only had the exact article that was in the newspapers, it had about fifty to sixty more related articls to this update. The article went into depth and showed the issues from multiple point of views. The articles went as far as to discuss recruiting problems from the new order. "The New York recruiter said he turns away about one applicant a month for tattoo-related reasons. His recruiting substation has rejected about two dozen would-be Marines since October."(Freepublic.com)The Internet sources also vividly describes exactly what a Marine can not have as a tattoo. "Full-sleeve tattoos, which cover all of the Marines arms and legs, are now prohibited. Half and quarter sleeve tattoos visible while wearing the PT shirt or shorts are also banned...Also not allowed are tattoos that are 'prejudicial to good order, discipline and morale, or are of a nature to bring discredit. Upon the Marine Corps...'. Such tattoos include, but are not limited to, any that are 'sexist, racist, vulgar, anti-American, anti-social, gang related, or extreme group or organization related.'(Schogol, Stars and Stripes).

Online news clearly differs frm print news. In my opinion, online news is better. With online news, there are links that transport you to other sites and such. It is almost interactive. With print news, all that you have is what is in front you.

Six Blog Assignment

Today, the internet is being broadly used to create and maintain communities and relationships that are web based. As I stated in an earlier blog, I am not active in the new facets of technology and could be less concerned with them. One form of technology that I do use is AIM. I enjoy talking on aim only to people that I have actually met and know. AIM is a huge internet community. It is constantly updating and improving its most recent technological advances.
AIM has become a significatlly increasing factor in the development of social ties within its many social communities. With the conversations that AIM allows you to have with another person, people can let out feelings and express themselves in ways that they would not normally be able to express in person. People also create new relationships. People who were just associates can become closer due to AIM. AIM allows people to find out more about their friends and builds confidence. It can build confidence because when talking to multiple people at once, you feel a sense of popularity. Confidence is something that can not easily be built up and cna not easily be taken away.
AIM is also convienient. No one that I have ever met could hold more than one phone conversation at once. IMing, the exchange of text messages through a software application in real-time is the ability to see whether a chosen friend, co-worker or buddy is online and connected through the selected service. Instant messaging differs from ordinary email in the immediacy of the message exchange and also makes a continued exchange simpler than sending e-mail back and forth(instant messaging, 2006).

Instant messaging community has evolved the english written language also. IM users have developed an evolving syntax that includes shorthand, acronyms, symbols, and other elements that constitute a unique lexicon, encouraging users to interact in ways not possible either in person or with other forms of electronic communication(educause.edu, 2005). This written language can be "english altering." Those who use aim can second that notion. As students, we have to be careful because when really writing out school work that is graded, you can sometimes input the words you use on AIM. This happens simply because the instant messaging language is extremely convienient and less thought out.
All in all, this internet communication technology had developed social ties within online communities all over the world. AIM is just one of the many internet communities that continue to amaze the citizens that reside within them.

Wait...Was that REALLY you?

How many times have you met someone over the internet, had conversations with them, saw their extreme or very exuberating pictures under their profile and when you met that person they were nothing like what they presented themselves? Or when you did meet them in person, you could tell that they were actually trying to act out how they projected themselves to be on the internet? This unfortunately happens to thousands of people on a daily basis. People abuse their online identities to make others believe that they are not who they really are. Abuse is sort of a harsh word. People take advantage of the fact that they can create a personality and a "character" of someone who they wish that they could be.
Being apart of an online community does not always have to be a bad thing. I am not implying that it is. I am just bringing out the fact that there are so many of us who take full advantage of the internet and these online communities. Just about everyone has at some time or another gave a little false information about themselves in a profile or a picture or even just in a caption. But my point is being brought out by those people who make a whole profile about some fictional person and make this person seem so real so that they can meet different varieties of people and talk to people who they might have never had the chance of speaking with. The tricky phenomenological issue with real versus fantasy self is this: what is one's true identity? We usually assume it must be the self that you present to others and consciously experience in your day to day living. But is that the true self? Many people walk around in their f2f lives wearing "masks" that are quite different than how they think and feel internally (Suler, 2002).
I'll admit, I was one of the many faithfuls on facebook and myspace. The difference between me and most of the cyber world was that I was totally honest with my profiles. Because of my honesty, I meet a lot of people that were like me and had the same values and interest. On the other hand, being honest caused me a lot of frustration and unenjoyment of these online communities. First it started out with the false impressions of people on facebook. With facebook, you can see exactly who your talking to because most of your friends go to the same school that you are going to. I would meet somebody new and when I finally saw them on campus, it was an astonishment because the person that they presented themselves to be wasn't really the person that they were in real life. I went through this a couple of times. The person was not really outgoing as they mad themselves seem, or they weren't as fun as they made themselves seem, or in some cases they weren't even the person they had themselves as in the picture on their profile. After going through this problem more than just a couple times, I decided that I would save myself the trouble of being in a online community and just leave facebook and myspace alone. I still use aim, but aim can be just as bad. There is no pictures with aim and so you never really know who you could be talking to.
Not all people see the virtual community from my point of view though. Some people believe that it is exciting and important to society and people's self confidence because it allows people to see themselves in another light with a different attitude. "Identity in online environments are still poorly understood. As online cultures becomes an increasing part of everyday culture, it becomes more and more important for us to understand how it affects who we are." (Berman, 1999) Online culture allows people to expand their personalities and create new "thems." They create new confidence in themselves and transfer that confidence to their real lives.
To me, the whole cyber internet communities is fake and I'll never really trust it. So that is why I constantly pose the question, Was that really you?

NO COOKIES IN THIS COOKIE JAR!

"Who would watch you without your permission? It might be a spouse, a girlfriend, a marketing company, a boss, a cop or a criminal. Whoever it is, they will see you in a way you never intended to be seen - the 21st century equivalent of being caught naked."(Bob Sullivan, 2006) The Websters New World Dictionary describes the word privacy as being private; seclusion, secrecy and one's private life. It also describes the word private as not being open to or controlled by the public.
"When you are surfing the web you may think you are anonymous, but there are various ways that information about you or your activities can be collected without your knowledge or consent."(Privacy Threats on the Web, n.d.) Some ways that your information can be received is through cookies, downloading freeware or shareware, search engines, email and spam etc. The information that caught my attention was the cookies. I've seen them pop up before on my computer and I didn't know what they were until I started this assignment. A cookie is a piece of information that an Internet website sends to your browser when you access information at that site(Privacy Threat on the Web, n.d.). The way cookies work is that it allows website operators to assign a unique permanent identifier to a computer which can be used to associate the requests made by the website from that computer cookies indicate to a website that you have been there before. Providing personal information about yourself or buying something online may be recorded by the cookies on that website and can be used to build up a profile about you and your interest.
Cookies give web developers the ability to save information from forms onto the client machine. The easiest way to secure yourself against the supposed dangers of cookies is to get one of the latest browser versions and turn off cookies(Jennifer Kyrnin, n.d.).
When I first moved onto campus here at U.B., I set up my computer. I set up all my programs and got everything situated the way that I wanted it. The only thing that was left for me to do was to get on the Internet and start surfing. When I went to turn on the Internet though, it wouldn't work. It wouldn't work because of the schools secure network. It would not allow for me to have cookies on my computer. Until today, I did not no why but I have finally found out. One incident where I was skeptical about my privacy is when I was buying a pair of sneakers online. I had to give my credit card information and my home address. I felt so uncomfortable putting all of my information out there like that. I made up in my mind that I wasn't going to put anymore of my information on the Internet ever again when one day I received a random phone call from America Online stating that I owed them $140.67 on an account that I never opened or knew anything about.
Some people might consider me to be scary or a cautious individual when it comes to information over the Internet, but hackers are hackers. And no matter how secure and safe people think that these networks are, there is always the possibility that the secure network can be breached and I don't want to be one of the individuals who suffer or get effected by it when it happens.

What a GIFT does for the Heart

A commodity, "a product of human work produced for the purpose of trade." (www.wikipedia.com) This doesn't really fill the category of a gift does it? A gift is a compassionate expression of feelings for the heart, from the heart. In my lifetime I have been apart of many gift economies. A gift economy can range from a variety of different relationships. A gift economy can be a friendship, a gift economy can be a charity or a soup kitchen. A gift economy can be a church organization affiliated with helping others. A gift economy has a large variety of possibilities. My most recent gift economy has been being on the basketball team. Now I know that some people may be thinking how is a basketball team a gift economy? Well on my team here at the University at Buffalo, we give to the communities and to the students of this university. We've done numerous amounts of community service and have had student affairs. Two examples of community sharing that we've been apart of and stick out in my mind is, one, in the summer as students were coming back to school. My teammates and I stood outside in the hot weather in front of the dorms with open arms offering help to anyone who had an over whelming amount of luggage.
We carried luggage big and small, short and tall for hours. We did this not because we wanted tips at the end of the day, not saying that wouldn't have been nice:-), or because we wanted recognition, but we did it from the sincerity of our hearts that we wanted to help others. We didn't need anything in return. Another example is when we sign autographs for people. Signing autographs is the best feeling in the world to me. When my team and I sign autographs, you can just see the joy that it brings to the peoples face whom we are signing for.
One person might say, "Can I have one for my son and daughter, they love you kid." To hear those words uttered by a proud parent or to look at the smile of a kid who is inspired by you and thinks that you are the best player in the world is priceless. Nothing can replace the gift that we give to those people. NOTHING.
Peter Kollock refers to a gift as "unique."(Peter Kollock, 1999) The Encyclopedia describes the word unique as unlike anything else. It is to be particularly remarkable, special, or unusual..."(www.encyclopedia.com) In the article, "The Gift Economy," it states that the sign of excellence in a new world of the larger self is not vast profit or possessions, but sufficient material successes to allow large and thoughtful contributions to society. (Clifford Pinchot, 1995) I think that this statement is unbelievably true. People tend to use their status and their contributions to society to just boast in them and receive glory for their accomplishments. And non of those things really matter. What matters is being able to make a difference. People should use their popularity and their respect to help get others in need of help what they really need. People with a highly praised status in society should be working towards using that status to make a contribution to society.
I KNOW THAT I AM!

Copyright This! Copyright That!...Legal is Back!!!

Copyrighting has become one of the single most frustrating issues over the Internet. Copyrighting does not just involve music that people download over the Internet. Copyrighting has to do with anything that is copied and used for someone else's personal use. Plain and simple, if your not given permission to use something without giving credit to the person who created it, then you are STEALING.
Personally I do not download music from the Internet, nor do I double cd's using a computer. I feel that I am fortunate enough to have the money to purchase original copy Cd's by artist whom i chose. I do understand that accommodating both the interest of content creators and the public is a very difficult task. It is hard for a person to decide what site is legal and what site can be detrimental to their future. They just surf the web looking for free music and what pops up is what pops up.
Playing music is perfectly legal. It's where you get the music from that is the big problem. Sharing and swapping music files on non - licensed Internet sites or burning music to Cd's and selling or giving them away is illegal (www.whatsthedownload.com). Sites such as Limewire.com are considered to be illegal.

iTunes is considered to be a legitimate site.
From an outsiders point of view, I think that there needs to be someone or some organization that comes up with a solution, not just a big debate, about the whole copyrighting problem. There is thousands of sites on the Internet that allows viewers to download free music and free videos. The problem is, is that some of these sites are legal and some of these sites are not. There has to be a symbol or some kind of attribute that solidifies the legalness of the site. Everyone can get a copyright symbol on a site. Not everyone can make their websites legal.
For some, copyrighting may not mean a thing to. But to artist or an author, officially copyrighting gives you rights. Copyrighting gives you the ability to sue and statutory damages (www.benedict.com). Statutory damages are pre - established damages for cases where calculating a correct sum is deemed difficult. In intellectual property cases, it is often difficult for plaintiffs to determine the exact volume of infringement. Thus, statutory damages are often calculated as a multiple of the price for the use of the infringed right (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statutory_damages). Without copyright on your work, you are basically asking for trouble. People can infringe your work as much as they please unless you copyright it. You can not sue an infringer without copyright.
SO COPYRIGHT!!!
Copyrighting is a legal matter. For those Internet downloaders who think that what you are doing is okay and that you can not get in trouble for it, YOUR WRONG. The Copyright Act of 1976 sums it all up. In this act there is five exclusive rights that are granted to copyright holders. Within these basic rights of the copyright holder, it basically states that the copyright holder has the right to sell, advertise, copy and perform their work publicly. This protects against copyright infringement (www.wikipedia.com).
As I stated before, I am not a downloader of music or any other source from the Internet. I do know that it has become an extremely stressful problem in the music and media industry. That is why I stated Leagal is Back!!! Downloaders have the choice to download the right way. Legally.

THE TRUTH!.....About EMAIL

Email! The most convenient and accessible Internet resource ever created. Sometimes as a people, we get so used to resources and tools being available for us, that we forget that these are some of the greatest accomplishments ever created by man. The email went from being an extremely limited investment, to being the most accessible tool on the Internet.
The email was not considered an email at all when it was created. Ian Peter refers to the email as "just a small advance on what we know these days as a file directory." A file directory is basically a folder in a computer. Directories can be organized and related to other directories. Using this strategy to leave a message on the computer was like leaving a note on someones desk. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology used a system like this called MAILBOX. They also used the program called SNDMSG (Ian Peter, 2004).

In 1971, Ray Tomlinson sent himself an email between two computers in his office. It was the first email ever written (Kazmierczan, 1997).Electronic Mail was introduced in 1972. Ray Tomlinson, an MIT student, created and wrote the basic email message send and read software. Ray Tomlinson wrote his first program as an intern for IBM in 1960. After getting a job at Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN), he was contracted to the US Department of Defense to build ARPANET. Tomlinson created the program SNDMSG. While he was working on this extravagent program, he was also working on a program called CYPNET, a program that allowed for files to be transferred between computers on the ARPANET ("Inventor of Email", n.d.).
Before Internet working began, email could only be used to send messages to various users of the same computers. Once computers began to talk to each other over networks, the problem became a little more complex. The email needed to be able to have an envelope and address on it. To do this the scientist needed a means to indicate to whom letters should go that the electronic posties understood. Tomlinson picked the @ symbol from the computer keyboard to denote sending messages from one computer to another. So then, for anyone using Internet standards, it was simply a matter of nominating a name of the user@name of the computer(Ian Peter, 2004).
EMAIL BECAME THE SAVIOUR OF ARPANET!

Email has now evolved even more and has come a very long way. Today, people think of email as a convenient resource that is a standard of having the Internet. People fail to realize that the email is a luxury all in itself. When email finally became popular and mature enough in the Internet industry, it became a standard feature of the Internet. During this period in time, the email was on per-minute charges for individual dial up users. When the World Wide Web was created, email began to be made available through web resources such as Yahoo and Hotmail. These web resources allowed for the Internet to be made available at no cost and very accessible to those with computers. Now look at email. It is one of the single most important features of the web. Email is used daily by millions and millions of people who are in affiliations as small as schools and as big as Industries. The email is virtually the face of the web (Ian Peter, 2004).

About Me....G!

This is something new for me...Blogging. I've seen these things on myspace before but never really thought of trying it out. Well here it goes! My name is Greg Gamble. I have a couple different names that people call me, but for the most part people here at school just call me Greg. I am a second semester sophmore and my major is Communication and my minor is English. Because of my major I have to take this class, although I must say that this is not one of the classes that I think I will wind up hating to have taken.
Here at UB I am a student-athlete. I play basketball for the Men's team. We are having a pretty good season so far. It can get better though. Last semester was a really good semester for me, so I am just riding the wave of success right now and trying to hold on to my surf board. As a freshmen I kind of hit the wall and couldn't get up, but I'm finally back on my feet and running full speed. I enjoy spending quality time sleeping and going to church. I am a very active member at my church. I consider myself to be a very supportive eldest brother to my siblings. I try and take care of my brothers and sisters as much as possible. My interest in academics has increased incrediblly since joining this university. I never thought that I would be the one to enjoy school but so far college has proved me wrong. My most favorable interest is in writing. I love to write and express myself in words and on paper. That is why I am minoring in English. I want to become a journalist and be able to get paid for my writings and how I see things. Hopefully I can be successful here at UB because I really want to be on the Deans List.
I am a very laid back person. I think that I am almost too laid back. I am frequently asked if I am tired and if I am sick. IM NOT! I'm just smooth in everything that I do. :-) I am not a cocky person at all. I love JESUS with all my heart. I love my family with all my heart. I have three younger brothers ages 16, 10 and 10. Yes they are twins. I also have a sister who is 13. She is becoming quite the young lady. I have both my parents which is a blessing. Even though my younger siblings live with both their parents, they still look to me almost as their dad too. I take care of them so much and spend so much time with them that I should be. I love them though. I think that I am a very good person to know. Some athletes, especially basketball players, are really flashy. But if I never told anyone that I was on the basketball team then I dont think that anyone would even know because I believe in truly being humble.
I plan on having a very successful career. Basketball is going to take me where it takes me. After that, I plan on working for espn or some big television or magazine company as a journalist.
